Forever, Always, and Then Some

Chapter 104

Saturday night

Angel is alone in the hotel lying on his bed. There is knock at the door.

Angel: Who is it?

Cordy: It’s me.

Angel quickly stuffs something in the nightstand drawer and stands up

Angel: Come in.

Cordy: Hey. We are back.

Angel: I see that. How was it?

Cordy: Nothing like yours. If it wasn’t so tragic it would have been funny.

Angel: You don’t think they will be happy?

Cordy: They might. I am referring to Xander’s parents. I am so glad I am not the one marrying into that family.

Angel: That came off sounding jealous.

Cordy: Me jealous. Never. I am very happy with my life. Well except the for the bone crushing headaches.

Angel: I wish we could do something about those.

Cordy: If it means taking away my visions, I don’t want it.

Angel: Other than Xander’s parents, was it nice?

Cordy: It was and if you won’t ask I will tell you. She looks great. Big but great. And Conner is into everything he can. I was exhausted just watching her keep up with him.

Angel: She is showing a lot?

Cordy: Yes, but you see her everyday.

Angel: Not really. Conner is always with her and he kinda takes over the screen.

Cordy: Well she is definitely showing. I think she said she is almost six months.

Angel: I know. Next week. So Conner is into a lot?

Cordy: He crawls faster than some people walk. And he hates to be held.

Angel: Even by Buffy?

Cordy: Especially by Buffy. He wants to go. Nothing going to hold that one down for long. Oh reminds me, she gave me some pictures for you.

She pulls them out of her purse.

Angel: Set them on the nightstand. I will look at them later.

Cordy walks over and sets them down, she glances and notices the partially open drawer and pulls out the picture.

Angel: Cordy.

Cordy: Angel, why are you torturing yourself? Get in the car and go to her. Talk to her face to face. Stop brooding around here and find out what the hell is wrong.

Angel: No. I am not forcing myself at her. If she don’t want me, then I can’t make her.

Cordy: You really think she don‘t want you? Angel, this is serious. We all know how much she loves you.

Angel: You all may be wrong.

Cordy: So she is lying when she says it.

Angel: She doesn’t say it. Not in weeks.

Cordy: I don’t believe that. I have heard you tell her everyday that you love her.

Angel: I do and she always comes back with same here. It’s like she can’t say the words anymore.

Cordy: Oh. But it is not that she doesn’t love you. I know that. You just need to find out why she is shutting you out.

Angel: Don’t you think I know that. Well I am going to sleep and I guess Gunn is waiting for you downstairs.

Cordy: He is. Dawn headed to bed too.

Angel: See you later.

Cordy: I still think you need to go see her.

Angel: Maybe, but Willow said she would let me know if she seems ready.

Cordy: So Willow is helping. I am glad that someone is.

Angel: Good night.

Cordy: Got the hint. Night big guy.

Next morning

At Angel Investigations.

Fred: I thought it was nice.

Wesley: It was quite different. Such an interesting mixture of people.

Fred: Willow looked so pretty. She seems to be dealing with the death okay.

Wesley: I think so.

Fred: That girl Faith is the other slayer, right?

Wesley: Yes. She just got out of jail. She appeared to be doing okay though.

Fred: I still can not believe she showed up with Spike. She must be hard up.

Wesley: They are not a couple. They just patrol together and I guess she hasn’t met anyone else. But come to think of it Faith was never one to have one guy. She liked to play the field a lot. She even tried to get Angel in bed.

Fred: Angel? What he say?

Wesley: I assume no. He was with Buffy.

Fred: Oh yeah. Did she go after you?

Wesley: Thankfully no.

Fred: Anyone that I would know?

Wesley: Xander.

Fred: Oh.

Wesley: I don’t know if she is still like that. Oh, hello Angel.

Angel: Hey. Did not expect anyone to come in today.

Wesley: I stayed here last night. I think Cordy and Gunn are staying home.

Angel: Good. We all need some time off. So what are you two going to do?

Fred: Nothing. Unless you need me to work on something.

Angel: No. I’m just getting a book.

Fred: Did Cordy tell you that Buffy looked wonderful?

Angel: She did. And she said Connor is becoming a handful.

Fred: She is right. But he is so cute. He had everyone’s attention. Even Spike mentioned he was cute.

Angel: Spike was there?

Fred: Yes. He came with Faith.

Angel: Oh.

He walks toward the stairs.

Wesley: Thought you wanted a book.

Angel: Maybe later.

He heads upstairs.

Fred: (w) What did I say?

Wesley: (w) Not sure.

In Sunnydale

Willow: It is over. I can not believe we got through it. I am sorry that Angel decided not to come.

Buffy: Oh, it was my idea. It would have been too difficult with the daylight and I had enough to deal with.

Willow: Buffy, how could you. It would have been no problem. Hell, Spike was there.

Buffy: It is over and it isn’t worth discussing. I need to call him.

Willow: Let me take Connor so you can talk in private.

Buffy: No, it is bad enough Connor has to be apart from his Dad, he should at least see him each day.

Willow: Fine, I just think you two need to talk without a distraction.

Buffy: Maybe later.

She rings up on the computer.

Fred: Hi Buffy.

Buffy: Is Angel around?

Fred: He was but he went back to his room. I can get him.

Buffy: No just have him ring me when he comes down.

Fred: Okay.

Disconnect

The next morning.

Willow: You sleep okay.

Buffy: Fine.

Willow: I thought I heard you crying.

Buffy: No. I don’t know what you heard.

Willow: You going to call Angel.

Buffy: No. I am waiting for him to call. I left a message

Willow: Oh. Well I am off to class. I will pick up dinner on the way home. Any thoughts.

Buffy: Food. We both seem to have big appetites now.

Willow: I guess pregnancy does that. We have appointments next week. I know I have gained at least 5 pounds.

Buffy: You? Look at me. I am not even going to guess how much I have put on. Just keep having to adjust my clothes. I hope I don’t run out of room.

Willow: You won’t. Did you hear Oz yesterday? He can’t wait till I am big as you. I guess he wants visible proof that there is baby in here.

Buffy: There is no doubt I am pregnant. I am as big as a house and them some.

Willow: You are not. You look like any woman entering her third trimester.

Buffy: I know, three more months and I will not get through the door.

Willow: Quit exaggerating.

Buffy: I’m not.

Willow: Buffy, you look fine.

Buffy: Hey, aren’t you going to be late for class.

Willow: I am. Buffy stop worrying, you look wonderful.

Willow makes a quick exit.

Buffy: Wonderful. Yeah as wonderful as Willy.

In LA

Cordy: Morning Angel.

Angel: Has Buffy called?

Cordy: Not yet.

Angel: She never called yesterday.

Cordy: Well call her.

Angel: She will call when she has time. She always does.

Cordy: I guess.

Fred: Morning guys.

Cordy: Hi Fred.

Fred: So what we working on today.

Wesley comes from his office.

Wesley: Fred, can you help me in here a moment?

Fred: Sure.

They go in and close the door.

Cordy: I do not see a lot of work getting done in there.

Angel: I say more power to them. At least they are happy.

Cordy: Call her. And quit acting like a wounded puppy.

Angel: I am not.

Cordy: Oh go sit down and brood.

Angel: I will be upstairs if you need me.

Cordy: That is doing your marriage a lot of good.

Later that night

In LA

Dawn walks in the hotel lobby.

Angel: Your back?

Dawn: Yes.

Angel: Did you have a good time?

Dawn: It was fun. Hot but fun.

Angel: I guess it would be.

Dawn: I guess the heat don’t bother you.

Angel: Not really.

Dawn: Well we did duck into the monkey house which was cool. You should have seen Pike. He acted like an idiot, mimicking the monkeys.

Angel: You feel like going out tonight? Dinner or something?

Dawn: I’m sorry. We ate at the zoo. I just want to get a shower and go to bed. I’m tired.

Angel: Okay. Maybe another night.

Dawn: Of course.

She heads to her room. She opens the door and closes and locks it behind her. She flips on the lamp.

Dawn: Pike?

Pike steps out of the bathroom.

Pike: Right here sweety.

Dawn: No problems sneaking in?

Pike: No, but I am still not sure about being here.

Dawn: No one will know. I told him I was talking a shower and going to bed. Besides he is in such a funk about Buffy right now he is not worried about me.

Pike: We can slip out and go to my place.

Dawn: Come on we are fine.

She wraps her arms around his neck. He leans down and gently kisses her.

The next morning

In Sunnydale.

Willow: Morning.

Buffy: Hi.

Willow: What is wrong?

Buffy: Nothing.

Willow: Are you sleeping okay?

Buffy: I am fine.

Willow: Let me take Connor tonight and you can go to bed early. Because if you get too run down I know one vmpaire who will haul you off to LA in a heart beat.

Buffy: Like he cares.

Willow: What are you talking about?

Buffy: Nothing. He just can‘t even bother to call. Even to see Connor.

Willow: Oh. Well he maybe busy. Between work and Dawn I do not see a lot of free time.

Buffy: But I thought Connor was the center of his world.

Willow: Then call him.

Buffy: Maybe later. I’m going to take Connor for a walk before it gets too hot.

Willow: I am on my way out too.

Buffy: I got my key, so just lock the door.

Buffy heads out the front.

Willow grabs the phone and quickly calls LA.

Cordy: Angel Invest..

Willow: Cordy, I need to talk to Angel.

Cordy: Buffy?

Willow: No It Willow. Is he there?

Cordy: Sure. Angel its Willow.

Angel: Hey Willow. Is something wrong?

Willow: Yes, you. Is there some reason you are not calling Buffy?

Angel: Because she usually calls me. I never know when it is a good time.

Willow: Well she called you on Sunday and asked you to call and she is still waiting.

Angel: I got no message.

Willow: Well you better call. She just left to take Conner for a walk. She should be back in an hour.

Angel: Willow, I swear I got no message. Everyone was off on Sunday. It was just Dawn, Fred and I.

Willow: Well I suggest you ask them. But she is very upset. I am not positive but I think I heard her crying in her room the last two nights but she denies it.

Angel: Do you want me to come down?

Willow: Call her in an hour and offer. I need to go or I will be late for class.

Angel: By Will.

Willow: If I learn anything else I will call.

Cordy: What is wrong?

Angel: Willow said Buffy called Sunday and left a message for me to call and is still waiting.

Cordy: Don’t look at me. I was not even here then.

Angel: I know.

Cordy: Well are you going to call her?

Angel: Yes, she has taken Connor for a walk. Willow said to give her an hour.

Dawn walks downstairs.

Angel: Dawn, have you talked to Buffy lately.

Dawn: At the wedding but not since, why?

Angel: Nothing.

Cordy: Fred is over at Wesley’s. She went home with him.

Angel picks up the phone and dials.

Wesley: Hello.

Angel: Hey Wes. Do me a favor and ask Fred if Buffy called Sunday.

Wesley: I know she did. I was there. She called right after you went back up to your room, she didn’t want us to get you . She just said for you to call when you came down.

Angel: And no one bothered to tell me.

Wesley: I guess we didn’t if you are asking.

Angel: Well I just found out Buffy has been waiting for me to call for two days.

Wesley: I am sorry but we all are human.

Angel: Well you are at least.

Wesley: Right. I am sorry and can call her myself and apologize.

Angel: No, Willow just called me behind her back. I do not want her to know that.

Wesley: Okay, but we are sorry.

Angel: I know.

Hangs up.

Cordy: So they forgot to tell you.

Angel: And now she has spent two night thinking I don’t care enough to return her call.

Two hours later.

Cordy: Still no answer?

Angel: I will give her a few more minutes.

Cordy: She wouldn’t be ignoring it?

Angel: Right now I do not know what to believe about her.

Cordy: Believe that she loves you and you will work through all of this.

Angel: Let me try again.

He rings out.

Buffy: Whoa!

Angel: Hello.

Buffy: Connor looks like daddy finally had time to call us.

Angel: Sorry honey, I just got the message this morning from Wesley.

Buffy: Today? But I called on Sunday.

Angel: What can I say, he is great with books but lacks general skills. So why didn’t you call back?

Buffy: I thought when you didn’t call you were too busy.

Angel: I am never too busy for my family. You call me every morning and I look forward to it. I thought when you didn’t call you had a good reason, did not know it was Wesley’s fault. I was wondering can I eat him. We still would have Fred for the research.

Buffy laughs: Sorry honey, you can’t eat the co-workers, besides the message was left with Fred, not Wesley.

Angel: Oh so if I eat them both I am going to have to do my own research. Okay no snacking on the co-workers.

Buffy: Okay, no more jokes. It is weird coming from you.

Angel: But I am sorry.

Buffy: I get it. So Connor, is it good to see Daddy. Tell Daddy about the walk. We saw birdies and squirrels.

Angel: Well next time I come down we can go out and look for owls and opossums.

Buffy: Walks in the dark around Sunnydale can lead to different creatures of the nights.

Angel: There will be no V.A.M.P.I.R.E.S. on our little walk.

Buffy: Except D.A.D.D.Y.

Connor: Dadadada.

Buffy: Okay, the kid is bright.

Angel: A little too bright.

Buffy: How is Dawn doing?

Angel: Fine. She went to the zoo with Pike yesterday and she was so tired she came home and went straight to bed.

Buffy: She is spending a lot of time with him. I am not sure I like that.

Angel: It is only during the day and they are at the beach and this one time the zoo. I trust her.

Buffy: Just keep in mind that older men have a lot of influence over young girls.

Angel: Are you talking about your own cradle robbing creature of the night?

Buffy: As an example.

Angel: But as I remember I said maybe we shouldn’t and you told me to hush.

Buffy: Blame it on the innocent virgin. I love the way men think.

Angel: Want to know what I am thinking now?

Buffy: What?

Angel: I am thinking it is time I came to Sunnydale.

Buffy: Oh. But you have Dawn and you can’t ask the others to watch her and she will have a fit if you bring her back too early.

Angel: Oh, I see. I just thought.

Buffy: I got to go. Connor needs changing.

Angel: Call me later.

Buffy: I will try after we had our naps.

Angel: you taking naps too.

Buffy: Yes, I need to.

Angel: I am glad you are taking care of yourself.

Buffy: I will call but I have to go.

Angel: I love you.

Buffy: Same here.

Disconnect.

Cordy: Is she better?

Angel: She was for a second until I mentioned coming to Sunnydale and she shut back down.

Cordy: And Willow has no idea why?

Angel: None what so ever.
